(Mar. 26, 2014) -- Suzie Price, one of five candidates in a hotly contested race to succeed exiting 3rd dist. Councilmember Gary DeLong, has been endorsed by exiting Mayor Bob Foster...and in a statement issued by her campaign, she says she's "committed to continuing the course he has charted to ensure our city remains fiscally strong" and she looks forward "to seeking his advice and counsel as a member of the Long Beach City Council."
Foster's other public endorsement to date has been Vice Mayor Robert Garcia who as a Councilmember voted mainly in keeping with Foster-backed policies has likewise pledged fealty to Foster's fiscal course. In a Mar. 26 release, the Price for Council campaign states in pertinent part: [Price campaign release text] Long Beach Mayor Bob Foster announced today his endorsement of Alamitos Heights Community Leader and Senior Deputy District Attorney Suzie Price for her candidacy for the Long Beach City Council Third District election. Price is the first candidate for City Council the Mayor has endorsed for the April 8, 2014 election. Third district voters are selecting a successor to term limited Councilman Gary DeLong from a field that includes Ms. Price, Stephen Bello, Martha Flores Gibson, Jim Lewis and Jack Rosenberg. If no candidate receives over 50% in the current election cycle (vote by mail ballots now flying; polling place election date is April 8) the top two candidates will proceed to a June runoff. The choice of Third district voters, as in all Council districts, will have citywide impacts since Councilmembers have co-equal votes on development projects, budget priorities and other actions affecting all Council districts and citywide.
