See Percentages Of Vote by Mail vs. Polling Place Ballots Cast in April 8, 2014 Long Beach Area Elections

(April 9, 2014) -- LBREPORT.com has these further developments regarding yesterday's (April 8) Long Beach area elections.

  • The City Clerk's office has issued a summary showing the percentages of vote-by-mail vs. polling place ballots cast in the unofficial results to date tallied in the April 8 Long Beach area election races. LBREPORT.com publishes the document in full below.

Long Beach CA Election Results, April 8, 2014

  • With 7th dist. Council candidate Roberto Uranga perched at 50.25% of the vote for now -- but with 743 ballots remaining to be counted -- how many of those ballots would he need to keep him out of a June runoff with second place finisher Joan Greenwood?

Mr. Uranga currently has 2,355 (50.25%) to Ms. Greenwood's 1,160 (24.54%). The City Clerk's office indicates 743 ballots remain to be counted: 439 vote-by-mail ballots that arrived in the mail on Tuesday or were dropped off at polling places plus 304 provisional ballots (that were cast subject to confirmation of registration, etc.) (Some of the 743 ballots remaining to be counted may contain "undervotes" (for no 7th dist. candidate) or "overvotes" (more than one vote for 7th dist. candidate.)

By our unofficial rough estimate, it appears that Mr. Uranga would have to receive at least roughly 42% of votes on ballots remaining to be counted...or, put another way, candidates Greenwood, Strickland and Chauser would have to collectively receive roughly 58+% of the votes on the remaining 743 ballots. Again, this is our unofficial, rough estimate.

  • City Clerk Herrera says that today (April 9, the day after Election Day) his office is "scouring supply boxes and rosters for all ballots that poll workers may have put in other parts of the supply/return boxes" and is today processing vote-by-mail ballots that were returned to the City (voted ballots) via US Mail prior to the 8 p.m. close of polls. and later today will provide an updated count of how many these US mail VBMs were received.

On Thursday/Friday April 10/11, teams of City Clerk staffers will canvass and process vote by mail and provisional ballots; on Saturday April 12, vote by mail ballots will be scanned, resolved and tabulated...and on Tuesday April 15, valid provisional ballots will be scanned and resolved.
