What's Foster's Role, If Any, In Independent Expenditure Committee "Friends of Long Beach, A Committee Supporting Vice Mayor Robert Garcia For Mayor?" It's Collected Nearly $50k in 30 Days, Most Of It From Outside LB; Foster Tries To Exit Without Answering Questions; LBREPORT.com and LBRegister Chase Him And Get This Response

(Feb. 25, 2014) -- Mayor Bob Foster, who moments earlier had endorsed his mainly reliable Council ally Robert Garcia for Mayor, initially declined to take questions, then gave a less than responsive response when LBRegister reporter Joshua Stewart and LBREPORT.com publisher Bill Pearl chased after him to pursue a question as he sought to leave the Feb. 25 press event.

Messrs. Stewart and Pearl hadn't spoken to each other until that time, but it turned out both were independently interested in the same subject: the "Friends of Long Beach" independent expenditure committee supporting Garcia for Mayor (reported first by LBREPORT.com on Feb. 1.) Friends of Long Beach has collected a large sum from a small number of contributors...and most of the money isn't from Long Beach, in seeking to put Garcia in the Long Beach Mayor's office.

As seen in the video, after initially being rebuffed, Stewart jogs up to Foster with Pearl not far behind; Stewart reaches Foster first and asks if Foster will be involved with the independent expenditure committee...as Garcia distances himself. Foster tells Stewart "I may, I don't know, we'll see, I haven't, I haven't, you don't see my name on it. Not right now."

LBREPORT.com's Pearl tries a second time in a slightly different way (asking in the present, not future): "Do you have anything to do with the independent expenditure committee?" Foster replies "not right now," gets in his car and leaves.

In the past thirty days the "Friends of Long Beach" has collected nearly $47,500 to date from a small number of contributors, most listing addresses outside Long Beach. Here's an update on its contributors since we first reported them on Feb. 1:

  • Feb. 13: Price Transfer Group, Rancho Dominguez: $5,000

  • Feb. 12: Victor Larosa, Rancho Palos Verdes, CEO/Pres. Total Transportation Services, Inc.: $2,500

  • Jan. 29: Affiliated Development Group, Long Beach: $5,000

  • Jan. 26: West Coast Agencies, LLC, Long Beach 90806,: $10,000

  • Jan. 26: De Anza Building and Maintenance, Los Altos (SF Bay Area): $25,000 [familymembers contributed to Gary DeLong's 2012 Congressional campaign in which Alan Lowenthal prevailed.]

  • Jan. 24: [initial contributor] TMSI, Long Beach 90815. [In Jan. 2004, Gary DeLong identified himself as TMSI's President/CEO in contributing $300 to support then-8th dist. Council candidate Terry Jensen. TMSI also gave $1,000 to Councilwoman Suja Lowenthal's 2006 reelection committee (contribution date was Aug. 2006, a few months after her reelection.) TMSI's Manager of Consulting Services, Nadimeh Ayromlou, is listed as having contributed $2,500 to DeLong's 2012 Congressional campaign.]

"Friends of Long Beach" lists its principal officer as George Urch, an Orange County based campaign consultant and publicist with ties to Dems.
