The Life Journey of Robert Lee Hollie, Jr.

Robert Lee "Lil' Rob" Hollie, Jr., was born on February 17, 1981 in Long Beach, California. He was the eldest brother of Leon Demetri Hollie and Rodney Deon Hollie, sons born out of the union of Jacqueline Lane Parker Hollie and Robert Lee Hollie, Sr. His mother, Jacqueline Lane Parker Hollie, preceded Robert Jr. in death a mere seven months ago.

As a young boy football brought joy, passion, focus and intensity to his life. Lil' Rob wore his Poly Pop Warner jersey with pride and played the game with love and enthusiasm. The Hollie family had their hands full when at one point, all three of the boys played. Although their schedules were packed, his parents were grateful and content that all of their sons were focused and involved in something positive. As Robert Jr. grew, so did his love for the game. This was demonstrated by the proliferation of trophies decorating the house. Some were as tall as he was! His dream of developing into a top-rated player in the Moore League was realized when he made the varsity squad at Long Beach Polytechnic High School. True to form, with the mind of a champion, Robert Jr. was an outstanding quarterback who played with skill and style. The field was his stage where he called winning plays with the crowd cheering him on. The thrill of the game enlivened him and left him with indelible memories. Although a shoulder injury curtailed his stellar performance on the field during his senior year, he never lost his zeal for football. He graduated from Long Beach Polytechnic High School, Class of 1999. He attended Bakersfield Community College where he was a member of the Renegades football squad.

It is no surprise that Robert Jr.'s approach to football was mirrored in the way he lived life. He enjoyed it to the fullest. He loved spending time with family and friends. He had a knack for bringing peace and harmony into a room with him wherever he was. When he walked into that room however, one could not help but notice his hallmark. Rob Jr. knew how to dress. He was meticulous in his appearance in the way he groomed himself and his sense of fashion. It was common for him to change clothes multiple times in a day depending on the occasion. This enabled him to be camera ready with a smile at all times.

"Always treat people with respect." This was what Rob Jr. lived by. He did not subscribe to conflict or negativity. He was a good-natured man whose sense of humor magnified his personality. A personality that was naturally polite and respectful to those he encountered.

Robert Jr. had solid, strong work ethics. This focus enabled him to support himself and later, his family. Whether he was working for an aircraft and facilities maintenance company, warehousing, or as a crew member of a local oil refinery, he always brought 110%.

Robert Jr. was the proud father of two adorable children, Amiyah Ann Hollie Hill, age 6, and Robert Lee Hollie, III, age 4. He made every effort to structure his life so that he would provide for their safety and well-being. Robert Jr. was determined to see his children grow and mature into productive and contributing members of their community.

On September 23, 2011, Robert Jr. and Twyla Davis Hollie were married. From their union they had one son, Robert Lee Hollie, III. Both were baptized a year later at the Mojave Seventh-Day Adventist Church. Robert Jr. served as a deacon-in-training and was sincere in his spiritual growth. Settling down in Rosamond, California, Robert Jr. was a true family man who loved his family immensely. He was never afraid to demonstrate his love and affection for his family. He cherished his role as a father to his son. He knew intuitively that playing at the park, engaging in a game of hide and seek and of course, introducing him to football were important and special moments in his young son's life. Robert Jr. passed on the value of a quality education. He passed on his thirst for knowledge to his children. The highlight of many evenings was story time before bed. As a husband, he knew that marriage was a partnership in all ways from the emotional to the mundane day-to-day interactions. He willingly shared household chores which extended beyond taking out the trash. Robert Jr. loved to cook and it showed through delicious family meals he created through experimenting with different flavors. He created miracles with his favorite foods of mashed potatoes, chicken and steak. The security that his relationship and family life brought to Robert Jr. was instrumental in helping him to cherish the peaks of life and endure its valleys.

On a warm and radiant Sunday afternoon, December 14, 2014, Robert, Jr.'s soul transcended the turbulence of this world to be with the Lord and rest in eternal peace. At the age of 33, he joined his mother and other family members who preceded him in death. Memories of Robert Jr. are joyfully abundant; especially the many incredibly fun happy times he shared with family and friends. Today, we celebrate the life of a son, grandson, husband, father, brother, nephew, uncle, cousin, and friend that will be truly missed by a community who knew and loved him.

Treasuring his memory, Robert, Jr. leaves behind his beloved wife, Twyla Davis Hollie of Sacramento, CA; two children: Robert Lee Hollie, III, and Amyiah Ann Hollie Hill (daughter of Brittany Berry-Hill of Portland OR); step-children: Antione Jones and Shakiya Ellison; father-in-law: Robert Lee Davis; five sisters-in-law: Andrea Davis of Sacramento, CA; Anita Davis and Tasha Stanley of Springfield, OR; Shawndra Johnson and Shartell Kidd of Lancaster, CA; two brothers-in-law: Robert Lee Davis, Jr. of California City, CA, and Donte Davis of Hot Springs, AK; grandmother: Mrs. Ethel Hollie Dilworth; father: Robert Lee Hollie, Sr.; six brothers: Christopher Deon Hollie, Leon Demetri Hollie, Rodney Deon Hollie, Brandon Hollie, Raesean Hollie, and LaRob Hollie; three sisters: Dieanna Janae Hollie, Rene Hollie, and Shanette Hollie; four nephews: Christian, Gabriel, Dylon, and Bryan Hollie; five nieces: Brittany Randolph, Imani, Mylese, LaMya, and Milan Hollie; five aunts: Lydia A.
