(Nov. 13, 2017) -- Helen Borgers, who DJ'd/hosted jazz radio programs for 38 years on 88.1 FM "K-JAZZ" (KKJZ, formerly KLON) and was in recent years involved with the Long Beach Shakespearce Company, has passed away. The announcement came today (Nov. 13) from family on Ms. Borgers' Facebook page:

Helen, the woman who inspired and enriched the lives of thousands of people in art, literature, music, theatre and so much more, who followed her passion in spite of what anyone thought, took her last breath today, at high noon, after a long, brave fight with the many health issues she faced. We will soon share more information about a celebration of Helen's life.

Thank you to everyone who has loved her, supported her, and been there for her during her life.

With Love and Light,
The Family

On June 30, K-JAZZ management abruptly let Ms. Borgers go, reportedly for budgetary reasons, an action she described on her Facebook page at the time as "a bolt from the blue." Ms. Borgers had hoped to segue to San Diego jazz outlet KSDS-FM until sidelined and ultimately hospitalized with what has been described as a serious health issue.

Without a job and with medical bills piling up, southland jazz musicians and fans organized a fundraiser for her in October.
