(November 1, 2017, 11:15 p.m.) -- LBREPORT.com is terribly saddened to report the passing of Jerry Caligiuri, a tireless LB neighborhood advocate, former Council office aide (7th, 8th and 9th districts) and long-time LB civic volunteer. Mr. Caligiuri was stricken suddenly while speaking at a Kiwanis group meeting (Oct. 31.) He was rushed to a hospital...but did not survive.

Only days ago, Mr. Caligiui received the 2017 Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt Democrat of the Year award for the 70th Assembly district (in photo below, standing between Councilman Roberto Uranga and former Councilwoman Tonia Reyes Uranga.)

Mr. Caligiuri was an active participant in a lengthy list of Long Beach neighborhood and civic activities (beyond what we compiled on just learning of his passing.) He was especially active in the national organization Neighborhoods USA (NUSA), serving on its national Board of Directors.

In May 2016, Mr. Caligiuri traveled to Memphis (with a LB delegation that included NUSA awardee City Prosecutor Doug Haubert) for a NUSA event where Mr. Caligiuri was elected to the group's national governing board.

LBREPORT.com conveys our deepest condolences to Mr. Caligiuri's family and his many friends in Long Beach and beyond.

Further as we learn it regarding arrangements.
