(February 28, 2003) -- LBReport.com strongly urges a "No" vote on Prop. 56 on Tuesday March 2.
Prop 56 is the latest attempt by many of the usual suspects who've waged a quarter century jihad against Prop 13 to make it easier for the geniuses in Sacramento to raise taxes.
Prop 13 protected taxpayers from runaway taxes by requiring a 2/3 vote by legislators before raising taxes. Prop. 56 would remove this crucial taxpayer protection, creating a virtual blank check for higher taxes.
The Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association notes that during the last legislative session, CA politicians proposed more than 100 tax and fee hikes totaling nearly $65 billion...which could have passed with Prop. 56 in place.
If Prop 56 passes (its proponents are trying to trick voters by mislabeling it "budget accountability, legislative responsibility"), we expect Sacramento's self-Gerrymandered ruling class -- which has decimated real political accountability and responsibility by creating anti-democratic "safe" district lines -- will move swiftly to further reduce your family's net worth.
Consider: As LBReport.com reported only days ago, despite gasoline prices now soaring to oppressive levels over $2 a gallon, Assemblywoman Jenny Oropeza (D., LB-Carson) has introduced legislation that would raise CA's gas tax by five more cents a gallon.
ˇYa basta!
As Howard Jarvis used to advise: "Send them a message."
Vote No on 56.
