On Ray Bradbury

(June 7, 2012) -- Long after some local civic pygmies are forgotten who declined to meet with Ray Bradbury, a literary giant who came to Long Beach's Acres of Books in 2008 to plead against its mindless destruction, the rest of the world will remember him for reasons described by others below.
We simply note the irony of destroying a genuinely iconic regional bookstore to try to create an artificially concocted "arts" related something or other. In our opinion, whatever rises along the east side of Long Beach Blvd. between Broadway and Third St. should serve as a permanent example of Bradbury-prophesized colonizers on Mars who destroyed what they didn't appreciate and government firemen who ignited books they didn't revere.
