Hear It: In Major Market Broadcast Ads, Gov. Brown Mangles Name of Long Beach-OC State Senate Candidate He Calls One Of His "Closest Allies"

(Oct. 20, 2014) -- It drew laughs earlier this year when a campaign consultant made a digital goof and a picture of San Diego -- instead of Long Beach -- appeared on a Long Beach Mayoral candidate's mailer. We think it's worth at least a few laughs when another campaign consulting outfit uses the GOVERNOR of California to try and install a former Assemblymember in a newly drawn ELB-OC state Senate seat, and the GOVERNOR repeatedly mangles the candidate's name after calling him "one of his closest allies."

The ad is now running on multiple radio outlets in California's largest media market.

We wonder if any of candidate's campaign geniuses noticed that in their ad, the GOVERNOR repeatedly calls an individual he said was one of his closest allies "Jose "SaLERReeo" instead of his proper name, Jose SOLOrio. Hear it yourself. (We've edited the :30 second spot to highlight the pertinent parts.)

In terms of substance, the ad portrays "SaLERReeo" as "protecting Proposition 13" although the Howard Jarvis Taxpayers Association has endorsed Janet Nguynen (an OC Supervisor) in the race and has slammed Solorio for voting in the Assembly to enact a "split roll" property tax that HJTA says would dismantle Prop 13.

LBREPORT.com doesn't endorse candidates. We watch and report what politicians do (especially compared to what they say.) East Long Beach voters can see for themselves exactly how both of these wanna-be state Senators have treated commercial property owners in using their private property when seeking political power for themselves (photos below, 2200 block Bellflower Blvd, Long Beach.) LBREPORT.com contacted both campaigns about this weeks ago; we invited their responses; they provided none.

The newly drawn district stretches from Santa Ana through Little Saigon and into parts of East Long Beach. LB areas comprise about 13% of the district (mainly east of Ximeno/Clark and south of Spring St.) For the past two years, the district hasn't had any state Senator (a quirk in redistricting.) We doubt the area's new constituents have lost any sleep over this.
