(July 8, 2012) -- With July 4th fireworks at ELB's Vets Stadium cancelled by the LB Firefighters Memorial Ass'n, Councilwoman Gerrie Schipske created in its place a "Freedom Fest and Concert" -- meaningful words followed by free music -- at Rosie the Riveter Park (Clark Ave/Conant Street).
The Freedom Fest, honoring all U.S. service men and women, included a reading of the names of 14 Long Beach residents who died while serving in Iraq or Afghanistan. LBReport.com provided LIVE video coverage (click here)...and here's some of what I saw: Color Guard: Millikhan High School Jr. ROTC. Photo credit: Diana Lejins Erma Vernado sings.
