    WLB Drive-By Double-Shooting: 1800 Block Harbor Ave.; One Dies, Another Survives


    (April 16, 2003) -- Two people were shot, one fatally, at midafternoon today in the 1800 block of Harbor Ave. (just north of PCH b/w 710 and Santa Fe) in the 1st Council district.

    LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer tells LBReport.com that at roughly 2:30 p.m. respond regarding a shots fired call...and on arrival found two victims shot.

    A preliminary investigation revealed that two unknown suspects driving in a vehicle fired shots at the two male victims.

    LBFD Public Information Officer Wayne Chaney tells LBReport.com that fire personnel undertook rapid, lifesaving intervention while LBPD secured the scene for working paramedics.

    One shooting victim succumbed at a local hospital; the second shooting victim is expected to survive.

    PIO Schirmer tells LBReport.com that as a result of several recent shootings, LBPD is deploying addditional resources, including gang enforcement officers, community policing officers and traffic units, specifically to target such violent crimes.
