(April 16, 2003) -- Two young men were shot, one fatally, in the 1000 block of Myrtle Ave. in the 6th Council district at midafternoon today.

LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer tells LBReport.com that at roughly 2:40 p.m. drive by shooting, unknown number of suspects, driving by, shot at and hit another male victim.

Victim in stable condition. As aresult of several shootings, LBPD deploying addditional resources of gang enforcement officers, community poliocign ofccier adn rtaffic units...

Being out there to target these speicific violent crimes.

LBFD Public Information Officer Wayne Chaney tells LBReport.com that fire personnel undertook rapid, lifesaving intervention while LBPD secured the scene for working paramedics.

Unfortunately, one shooting victim succumbed at a local hospital. A second victim is expected to survive.

LBPD PIO Schirmer tells LBReport.com that as a result of several recent shootings, LBPD is deploying addditional resources, including gang enforcement officers, community policing officers and traffic units, specifically to target such violent crimes.
