Palo Verde @ Carson St. Crash Kills One, Seriously Injures Two

(April 3, 2003) -- A serious traffic accident at Palo Verde Ave. and Carson St. has taken the life of one person and seriously injured two others.

LBPD says that at roughly 1:45 a.m. on March 30 a 1996 Saturn headed north on Palo Verde failed to stop for a red light at Carson St...and smashed into a 2000 Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck headed west on Carson St.

The Saturn's driver, Richard Sais, 32, of LB was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver and a passenger in the pickup truck were seriously injured and taken to an area hospital. The driver was listed in serious condition, the passenger in critical condition.

LBFD says it had over 32 firefighters working to extricate the victims, including LBFD's Technical Rescue Team, using the Jaws of live to cut the cars open and remove the victims.

LBFD and L.A. County Fire worked cooperatively in handling this accident.

LBPD asks anyone with information about this accident to call LBPD Detective Brian Watt at (562) 570-7355.
