Attempted Robbery @ Los Altos Area Credit Union Sparks Midafternoon Police Search, Perimeter, Helicopter

(April 15, 2004, posted as breaking news) -- Los Altos area residents in the area of Bellflower Blvd. and Stearns St. found themselves in the middle of a midafternoon LBPD search for two robbery suspects who allegedly hit a credit union at about 2 p.m. today.

LBPD set up a no-nonsense perimeter, blocking off streets with officers deployed as LBPD's helicopter "Fox" circled overhead until about 4:10 p.m.

Details are sketchy as we post. LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer says two male Blacks wearing orange jump suits allegedly jumped a security guard at the credit union, then fled...but didn't get any loot.

For roughly two hours, LBPD's perimeter stretched from San Vicente (east) to Bellflower Blvd. (west), from the 405 (north) to Stearns St. (south).

The suspects got away...for now. To reach LBPD immediately if you see something requiring a police response, call 911. If you have other information that may be useful to LBPD, their non-emergency number is (562) 435-6711

    Updates to follow as newsworthy.
