(April 13, 2004, 10:30 p.m., updated April 14 @ 12:50 a.m.) -- By a nearly two to one margin, voters have ousted 4th district Council incumbent Dennis Carroll after his first term in office and elected a new representative to the City Council: Patrick O'Donnell.
An unofficial total from LB's City Clerk showed O'Donnell with 2,565 votes (approx. 65%) to Carroll's 1,392 (35%). Councilman-elect O'Donnell will take office in mid-July.
Incumbent Carroll was backed by the Beachcomber...and in an April 11 reply to a Press-Telegram editorial, LB Mayor Beverly O'Neill opined concerning all Council incumbents, "Now is not the time for a change in leadership."
Mr. O'Donnell was supported by the LB Police Officers Association, the LB Firefighters Association, the Press-Telegram and LB Business Journal. LBReport.com was the first LB media outlet to call for the removal of incumbent Carroll last year.
At ELB's Avenue Three Pizza, Councilman-elect O'Donnell celebrated his victory with well wishers.
Councilman-elect O'Donnell received congratulations from 2d district Councilman Dan Baker, reelected to a second term, and 9th district Councilman Val Lerch.
Former LB Mayor and long-time 4th district Councilman, now LB Community College Trustee, Dr. Thomas Clark gets the latest update with Mr. O'Donnell.
Dr. Clark told LBReport.com he considers Mr. O'Donnell "more community oriented."
ELB realtor and O'Donnell supporter, Joe Sopo, spreads the news via cell phone.
LB Airport Advisory Commission member Doug Haubert joined in the festivities.
