(April 23, 2007) -- Residents of LB's Central City 6th Council district -- whose voters will select a new Councilmember on May 1 to succeed now-Assemblywoman Laura Richardson -- saw two murder scenes within blocks of each other in less than four hours in the predawn hours of April 21.
LBPD says officers responded at roughly 1:40 a.m. to a "shots fired" call in the 1800 block of Locust Ave. and found the body of Eric Mandeville, 20, of LB on a grassy parkway. He sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his torso and was pronounced dead at the scene by LBFD paramedics.
A motive for the shooting isn't known as we post, but LBPD is investigating the killing as possibly gang related.
Less than four horus later at about 5:20 a.m., officers responded to another "shots fired" call, this time in the 2000 block of Lime Ave. (a few blocks east and north) and found the body of Alfred Henderson, 47, of LB, who sustained multiple gunshot wounds to his upper body and was pronoucned dead at the scene.
Officers then discovered a second victim, a 52 year old woman [not identified by LBPD], who sustained gunshot wounds and was transported to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The motive for these shootings is likewise currently unknown to LBPD but is being investigated as possibly gang related.
