(April 2, 2008) -- "It slithered out of my mailbox...and what it says about me is a lie," says WLB/Central School Board candidate Rosa Diaz.
It's the Willie Horton ad of this campaign," says School Board candidate Paul Crost, running in the SE LB School Board race but incensed at the mailer targeting WLB/Central area voters.
It's actually a pair of mailings from the campaign to reelect School Board President Dr. Felton Williams ("Friends of Felton Williams"). One mailer (citing Ellis' drunk driving and other driving related offenses) says Rosa Diaz thinks School Board member Michael Ellis "is a role model for our kids." Another says "Rosa Diaz thinks it's okay for law makers to be law breakers" and "has been and continues to be a strong supporter of" Ellis.
On Feb. 9, LBReport.com had an on-the-record conversation with Ms. Diaz at the Pressburg Brunch. To hear what she told us when we asked about Boardmember Ellis, click here.
Both mailers also use unflattering photos of Ms. Diaz [a common opposition campaign practice]...including one in which she appears to be shrieking into a podium microphone, accompanied by text accusing her of being a strong supporter of Ellis. Ms Diaz says the photo was actually taken on the day she was translating for a speaker at a School Board meeting regarding a matter involving an LBUSD school.
