  • (April 6, 2009, updated April 7, 1 a.m.) -- An officer involved shooting took place on Monday afternoon (April 6) on Falcon Ave. just south of Hardwick St. (between Cherry and Orange Aves., north of Del Amo, south of RR tracks).

    A suspect who allegedly produced a weapon is dead; no officers are injured.

    In a release, LBPD says:

    On Monday April 6, 2009 at approximately 4:30 p.m., in the area of Falcon Ave. and Hardwick Street; uniformed and plain clothes officers attempted to detain a named suspect who had reportedly threatened to kill members of his family.

    The suspect, who is an ex-felon with a history of violence got into his vehicle and produced a handgun. Officers fearing for their safety fired their weapons at the suspect. The suspect died at the scene and a handgun was recovered...

    The suspect is described as a male in his thirties who resided in the city of Long Beach. The Los Angeles County Coroner's Office will release the suspects name and details of his death.

    Homicide Detectives are investigating the shooting...and (as with all officer-involved shootings) the L.A. County District Attorney's Office will conduct an independent investigation.
