(April 7, 2012) -- A LB man won over $227,000 in last week's (Mar. 30) Mega Millions lottery draw...and missed winning a share of a world record-breaking $640,000,000 (won by three people nationally) by just one number.
The CA Lottery says James Stokes of Long Beach was one of 29 people in CA who won $227,955. Its website says he bought his ticket at K&J Liquor and JR Market at 938 South St. His winning numbers matched the numbers of 46, 23, 38, 4 and 2...but missed the Mega number of 23. The CA Lottery's website says [website text] its "mission...is to provide supplemental funding to California schools while simultaneously supporting local communities. More than 94 cents of every dollar spent by our players goes back to local communities in the form of contributions to public schools and colleges, prizes and retail compensation. Since 2000, Lottery players have contributed $1 billion to public schools each year, and, since we began in 1985, Lottery players have contributed a total of more than $24 billion to education."
