Someone Mutilated This Beautiful Brown Pelican, Slashing Its Pouch; Int'l Bird Rescue Will Try Surgical Repair
|
(April 21, 2014) -- Someone mutilated this beautiful Brown Pelican, cutting the bird virtually across the length of its pouch, which it needs to feed itself.
International Bird Rescue says the pelican was found in the area of 5400 Ocean Blvd. in Long Beach and was transferred to the group's San Pedro facility.
In an April 19 dispatch on its website, International Bird Rescue says: "Our center team has placed temporary staples [look closely in the photos, you can see the staples] in the pouch to allow the bird to self-feed and stabilize. The bird is currently living in our small aviary awaiting surgery to repair the pouch." The group adds: "If anyone has information regarding this bird's injury, please call the SPCA cruelty tip line for Southern California at 1-800-540-SPCA." blog comments powered by Disqus
