(April 8, 2015) -- As reported before dawn today (April 8) on LBREPORT.com's front page (www.LBREPORT.com), a fuel tanker truck overturned on the southbound 605 freeway at roughly Wardlow Rd (after a collision with an SUV late Tues. night April 7.) The resulting accident sent roughly 2,200 gallons of gasoline (about a quarter of the fuel tanker's load) onto the freeway...and some of spilled product got into the Caltrans storm drain paralleling the southbound 605 freeway. HAZMAT crews scrambled and used booms to clean up and block off the spilled gasoline off before it reached creeks, river or open water. LBFD PIO Jake Heflin told LBREPORT.com leading edge of spill was at very roughly Wardlow Rd. Sorbent booms were set up to catch the product at roughly Wardlow Rd, Spring St. and Willow St. and LA County Fire, OC Fire and LBFD all responded plus hazmat/clean up team, PIO Heflin said.
