Man Fatally Stabbed About 2 a.m. At Wardlow Rd. Blue Line Stn, Suspect In Custody After Allegedly Stabbing Himself

(April 15, 2016) -- As flashed before dawn on LBREPORT.com's front page, a man was fatally stabbed in the 2 a.m. hour Friday (April 15) and a suspect is in custody after he allegedly stabbed himself.

At midday, LASD's on-scene investigation was still ongoing. LASD said at midmorning April 15 that its detectives have learned that at about 2:15 a.m. [LASD text] "Transit Policing Division deputies were patrolling the Wardlow Blue Line station platform and came upon two men involved in a physical altercation. One of the men was laying injured on the ground, when the other realized deputy personnel were present, he fled the scene towards West Wardlow Road, Long Beach."

[LASD text continues] Deputies requested assistance via radio and several Long Beach Police Department (LBPD) units responded. LBPD personnel located the uncooperative suspect as he fled on foot and utilized several less lethal weapons before he was taken into custody, approximately 1/2 mile from the crime scene. The victim was pronounced dead at the scene. The suspect was taken to a local hospital where he is being treated for self-inflicted knife wounds. He is currently listed in critical condition. The motive for the stabbing is unknown."
