(April 27, 2016) -- Today at 11:52 a.m., LBREPORT.com sent the following email to Mayor Robert Garcia on his non-City email address and to the listed treasurer for the campaign committee in support of sales tax increase Measures A & B:

[Scroll down for further.]

[Begin text] LBREPORT.com, LLC, an independent online news outlet now in our 16th year, offers to organize and make available to the public and on a non-discriminatory basis to our market competitors a formal debate on Measures A & B, including Mayor Robert Garcia, the primary ballot author in support of the Measures and the officeholder designated in the campaign committee seeking their passage.

We invite Mayor Garcia with a Councilmember he chooses to debate a signer and co-signer of the opposition ballot argument/rebuttal. (The two-on-two format minimizes personalizing issues and is similar to PBS debates on major matters conducted years ago by William F. Buckley.)

The debate will be on the following: "Resolved: Voters should vote for Measures A & B."

The debate will be conducted and recorded (audio, video or both as mutually agreed), with or without an audience as mutually agreed, at a time and location acceptable to both sides. It will be conducted in formal debate style, with proponents and opponents addressing the Resolved item and responding to issues as raised by their opponents; no moderator spun questions; time and rules of order enforced by an individual with no appointive or management ties to the City of Long Beach acceptable to both sides.

The event will be organized, conducted and presented without the use of City of Long Beach resources on or before May 15.

We request a response by return email accepting or rejecting our offer by noon April 28. Thank you.

Further as it develops.
