LBFD Public Information Officer Captain Mark Miller tells LBREPORT.com that at approximately 7:00 a.m., LBFD was called to a fire at the Royal Buffet in the 300 block of E. 33rd St. (visible to the north of the 405 freeway.) Firefighters arrived to find 10-15 foot flames coming through the roof and a Third Alarm was ultimately called.
Capt. Miller said the bulk of the fire was in the attic but it's not immediately known how or where the fire started (a matter under investigation.) Capt. Miller said the restaurant was closed on early Sunday morning (no customers inside) and no injuries to firefighters or others were reported. He said the building suffered significant damage and is "red tagged" (closed) for now until it can be inspected and cleared again for occupancy.
A total of 16 crews -- meaning 64 LBFD firefighters -- responded to the Third Alarm blaze. To ensure coverage for the rest of LB (from which LBFD resources were drawn at the height of the fire), LBFD received mutual aid coverage with two engines from the City of Vernon, one engine from the City of Downey and one engine from the City of Los Angeles, Capt.Miller said.
