(April 13, 2016, 3:30 a.m.) -- The first publicly disclosed contributors to a newly formed campaign committee seeking to persuade LB voters to approve a Mayor/Council proposed sales tax hike to 10% (currently 9% in Signal Hill/Lakewood, 8% in most OC cities) that City Hall could spend for any general fund purposes are the political action committees (PACs) for two public employee unions that will be negotiating new contracts and likely seeking raises in the coming months: the LB Police Officers Ass'n and the LB Firefighters Ass'n Local 372.
Their initial combined contributions total over $70,000. [Scroll down for further below.] |
Records filed with the City Clerk's office show:
The recipient of the $70,000+ is a newly formed campaign committee calling itself the "Mayor Garcia, Foster & O'Neill Committee To Support Measures A & B To Protect Police & Fire And Repair Infrastructure In Long Beach." The campaign committee lists its treasurer as Mark Taylor, who happens to be (title for identification) Chief of Staff to LB Mayor Robert Garcia.
As previously reported (first again) by LBREPORT.com, on Weds. March 23, an event was held after office hours at LB's Maya Hotel, where Mayor Robert Garcia told invitees that a major campaign would roll out on the day after LB's April 12 election, including TV and mail pieces. Developing.
