(April 24, 2017, 10:10 a.m.) -- UPDATED: LB resident @shiborigirl tells LBREPORT.com that she learned on Monday morning (April 24) that she was no longer blocked from @LBMarorsOffice after she was blocked on April 20 (as reported by us below.)
(April 23, 2017, 2:55 p.m.) -- Mayor Robert Garcia swiftly blocked a Long Beach resident from Twitter pages to @LBMayorsOffice when she Tweeted a message urging the Mayor to veto the ordinance narrowly approved (5-3) by the City Council (Aug. 18, coverage here) that would let the Mayor and Councilmembers use their "officeholder accounts" to give sums to candidates favored by Councilmembers and the Mayor running for other LB, state or federal offices.

"Veto the ordinance @LBMayorsOffice @RobertGarciaLB @LongBeachCity," wrote @shiborigirl, adding "C'mon, you can do it!" and referenced a Tweet from LBREPORT.com citing an editorial titled "Mayor Garcia: Veto That Ordinance" at this link.

She received the following message: "You are blocked from following @MayorsOffice and viewing @LBMayorsOffice's Tweets."

@Shiborigirl fired back, urging other Long Beach residents to amplify the message and retweet her Tweet, stating "feel free to retweet this tweet that got me blocked from the @LBMayorsOffice 's twitter account. And come visit me in free speech jail!"

LBREPORT.com is interested in knowing if you or your friends had any of your content blocked, or your access to the Mayor's Twitter or Facebook pages cut off, after attempting to express the viewpoint that the Mayor should veto the ordinance (or on any other civic matter.) Save what took place; don't delete it; please screen-save it and forward it to us at: mail@LBReport.com. Thank you.

Regarding a Mayoral veto, Section 213 of the Long BeachCity Charter provides:

As to any ordinance, except for emergency ordinances as provided for in Section 211 of this Charter, the Mayor shall, within ten (10) calendar days of adoption of the ordinance, either sign or veto the ordinance. If the Mayor signs the ordinance, it shall become effective thirty-one days thereafter. If the Mayor vetoes the ordinance, the veto shall be exercised by filing with the City Clerk a statement vetoing the ordinance and setting forth the Mayor's reasons for the veto. The City Clerk shall immediately transmit the veto message to all members of the City Council and shall, at the same time, cause the matter to be placed upon the agenda of the next regularly scheduled meeting of the City Council for which an agenda has not as yet been prepared by the City Clerk. At that meeting, or at any time within thirty (30) days of filing of the veto statement, the City Council may, by a vote of two-thirds (2/3) or more of its members, override the veto, in which case the ordinance shall become effective thirty (30) days thereafter. If an override is not voted within the thirty (30) days provided, the ordinance shall be deemed vetoed and shall be of no further force and effect.

By LBREPORT.com's unofficial calculation, the deadline for Mayor Garcia to execise his City Charter veto power is Friday, April 28 by 4:29 p.m. (City Clerk office closing time.)
