(August 3, 2002, posted at 11:20 a.m.) -- LBPD reports a man believed to be 18-23 years old was shot and killed early this morning in the 800 block of San Pablo Court (vicinity between Cerritos and Orange Aves. between 8th and 9th Sts.) in the 1st Council district.

Police responded to a 911 call at roughly 3:35 a.m. regarding yelling and gunfire in the area and found a male Hispanic victim in the street with an apparent gunshot wound to his abdomen.

He was taken to a local hospital where he died less than a hour later. Police say his identity is presently unknown.

The motive for the shooting is not immediately apparent but investigators believe it could possibly be gang related.. Anyone with information about this crme is asked to call LBPD Homicide Detectives Richard Birdsall or Scot Lasch at (562) 570-7244.
