(August 16, 2003) -- LB's Muni Band concerts may be over...but the beat goes on: for the third year in a row, El Dorado Park will get an extra week of music: the Elm Street Band will perform at El Dorado Park on August 22 from [note early start time] 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
In a written release, El Dorado Park South Neighborhood Association maven Grace Earl says that like last year, the location will be in El Dorado Park West - in the soccer field on Studebaker Rd. between Willow & Spring Streets.
The Elm Street Band's website (www.elmstreetband.com) says the group has been called "The World’s Greatest Garage/Surf Band" and has performed for southland audiences since 1988. The band's web site proudly proclaims it features Classic Rock N' Roll.
Ms. Earl urges those attending to look for the El Dorado Park South Neighborhood Association sign by the RV near the stage. This year, El Dorado Park South will be helping LBPD's Community Relations Division by having Neighborhood Watch and Safety fliers available for pick up.
Ms. Earl says City Hall's budget headaches mean next year there won't be funding for an Elm St. Band Concert. "This year’s event costs $2,000 for stage, sound equipment, band and porta-pottys and has been paid for by Councilperson Jackie Kell’s discretionary funding from last year. We are grateful to her for having the foresight to use those funds for this year’s concert. Our wish, however, is to keep this wonderful concert going in our area, and to do that we’ll need to get creative" Ms. Earl's release says.
"We have a year to work on helping to raise money for this event to take place next year. Hopefully the neighborhood groups in the 5th District will join us in raising this money," she adds.
