(August 5, 2003) -- Two alert LB cops spotted, chased and arrested a suspected robber minutes after he allegedly hit a convenience store in the 200 block of Orange Ave. shortly after midnight today.
LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer tells LBReport.com that at about 12:30 a.m., a robber allegedly jumped the store counter, pushed the clerk aside and stole cash from the drawer.
LBPD officers Rose and Gardinier were a few blocks west at Alamitos Ave. and 1st St. on an unrelated call...when they saw a subject matching the suspect description aired on the police radio. The suspect was on the west side of Alamitos and the officers gave chase.
A foot pursuit and small perimeter ensued...which culminated in the arrest of the suspect, who was hiding from the officers on a balcony.
PIO Schirmer says the loss was recovered...and the suspect was positively ID'd by the clerk as well as being caught on tape by the store camera.
Because LB cops Rose and Gardinier were observant on the beat and quick on their feet, the suspect is off the street...and awaiting court proceedings to follow.
