    Friday Night Fistfights On Pine Ave (vicinity b/w 3d & B'way) Aug. 15; Cops Present For Abt. Five Hrs., Restore Calm, No Arrests


    (August 19, 2003) -- LBReport.com has learned that at about 9:00 p.m. Friday Aug. 15, some fistfights occurred in the area of Pine Ave. between Broadway and 3d St., triggering a visible police presence that restored calm and continued through about 2 a.m.

    LBReport.com received reports of the fracas from readers and confirmed the following today via LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer.

    At about 9:00 p.m. Friday, LBPD received a report of roughly 10-20 subjects fistfighting on Pine Ave. in the general area between 3d St. and Broadway. On arrival officers saw several different fights going on and dispersed those who were fistfighting.

    Some police units were called in from outside downtown. A small number of windows may have been broken.

    While officers were present, a couple of more fights broke out. Officers restored calm and maintained their presence until about 2 a.m. to make sure things stayed calm.

    No one was arrested.
