(August 9, 2004) -- LBPD says a 21-year old LB man was playing soccer with a group of people in a driveway in the 400 block of Almond Ave. (vicinity of Orange Ave.) on Sunday August 8 at about 10:35 p.m. when a male suspect approached and fired several rounds in the direction of the group.
LB resident Cesar Duclona was hit, transported to a local hospital and pronounced dead. The suspect was last seen walking southbound from the location.
This is the second horrific killing in the same area in the past three weeks.
As previously reported by LBReport.com, on July 19 in the 400 block of Almond Ave. at about 10:30 p.m., LBPD responded to a "shots fired" and determined that a male Hispanic suspect walked up to a house, allegedly fired several shots at a man standing outside of his residence and missed him...after which the suspect walked to another residence on the same street and fired several times at another man in front of his residence.
That victim, a 28 year old LB man, was also fatally wounded.
LBReport.com has since learned that the victim of the July 19 shooting may have been in a wheelchair...having been paralyzed in a LB shooting nine years earlier in the area of Anaheim St. and MLK Ave. (This latter information was not part of LBPD's original release.)
LBPD asks anyone with information about this latest crime to contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Chris Cardoza or Dan Mendoza at (562) 570-7244.
