Gunfire, 900 block Pine Ave, Leaves One Dead, Two Wounded

(August 29, 2004) -- An 18 year old man is dead and two teens are wounded after gunfire erupted in the 900 block of Pine Ave. (1st Council district) shortly after 10:00 p.m. on Saturday August 28.

In a written release, LBPD said its investigators believe the three victims, who are all LB residents, were attending a fundraising party to benefit a new daycare business not yet open at the location.

The release indicates a dispute broke out, an unknown suspect displayed a handgun and an 18-year-old male was fatally shot. An 18-year-old male and a 16-year old male suffered wounds described as not life threatening.

LBPD says its investigators believe this crime is possibly gang related. The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Anyone with information about these events is asked to call LBPD Homicide Detectives Brian McMahon or David Rios at (562) 570-7244.
