(August 11, 2004) -- A fatal traffic accident occurred in the area of Lakewood Blvd. at Conant St. on August 11 at about 11:30 a.m.

LBPD says a car traveling southbound in the middle lane of Lakewood Blvd. tried to turn right onto westbound Conant St. and collided with a pick up truck traveling soutbound in the right lane of Lakewood Blvd., causing the pick up to crash head on into a traffic sign pole at the SW corner of Lakewood and Conant.

The driver of the pick up, a 65 year old LB man whose identity is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, was transported to a local hospital where he was pronounced dead.

The driver of the other vehicle, a 36 year old Seal Beach resident, stopped at the scene and was questioned by LBPD; charges of unsafe lane change and vehicular manslaughter are pending.
