(August 28, 2004) -- FAA duty personnel, responding to an inquiry from LBReport.com, indicate that at roughly 11:30 a.m. on August 28, a JetBlue flight approaching LB Airport over Los Altos pulled up and circled around for a second approach because some other aircraft downwind was experiencing radio failure.
The action was precautionary, FAA personnel told LBReport.com...and was not related to any problem involving the JetBlue aircraft.
A LBReport.com reader contacted us after hearing an unexpected "take-off" type thrust instead of the usual slow approach whine...and reported seeing the descending plane unexpectedly ascend over roughly the southern part of the Los Altos shopping center.
An FAA duty staffer described what occurred as basically a precautionary pilot action taken to ensure safety. The JetBlue flight landed without incident about five minutes later.
