(August 21, 2004) -- LBPD has told LBReport.com that it has been contacted by the Orange County Sheriffs Department about a July 26 robbery of a Radio Shack store in the 4500 block of Atlantic Ave.
The LB robbery is receiving added attention following an August 18 robbery of a Laguna Niguel Radio Shack location in which a man spent a considerable period asking employees about global positioning systems and talking on a cell phone, then held up the store with a sawed-off shotgun and stole a TV and walkie-talkies.
Similar robberies have reportedly occurred at other southland Radio Shack outlets and are being investigated.
The suspect in the Laguna Niguel robbery is described as 30-40 years old, 5' 8" to 6 feet tall...and appeared to be Middle Eastern.
LBPD Public Information Officer Greg Schirmer tells LBReport.com that the Laguna Niguel suspect description is not specific, but very generally resembles the LB suspect. However, there are no confirmed links between the robberies or terrorist involvement at this point, Officer Schirmer said.
