(August 27, 2006) -- LB's 2nd annual "Go Fly A Kite Championship" took place along Belmont Shore's beach at Granada Ave. on August 26.
A City Hall emailed-release (from the City Manager's office) said in part, "The free Go Fly A Kite Championship is the last event of the Long Beach Sea Festival, a three-month series of family and athletic events designed to showcase Long Beach as the premiere beach destination in the Southland." The Sea Festival Association's website listed the event as a City event.
Youngers of all ages enjoyed a perfect, steady beachfront breeze.
The first 100 arriving children received a free kite, courtesy of LB Airport which had a booth on scene. Staffing the booth (seen in silhouete) was LGB Public Information Officer, Sharon Diggs-Jackson plus another airport staffer, handing out Airport promotional items and info.
The event started at 2:00 p.m. (Due to a conflicting event we didn't arrive until about 3:15 p.m.). Ms. Diggs-Jackson said there was a good sized crowd early on.
