(August 10, 2006) -- LBPD says an officer-involved shooting took place on August 9 at about 1:30 p.m. when Detectives were following-up on an ongoing murder investigation.
"The detectives, who were working in an undercover capacity, were equipped with a photo of the suspect and were actively searching for him. They were in the 5500 block of Ackerfield Avenue when they spotted an individual matching the suspect’s description. The suspect fled from officers on foot and a foot pursuit was initiated. As the detectives gave chase, they observed the suspect reach for his waistband. Detectives, believing the suspect was armed and fearing for their safety, fired at the suspect. The suspect was struck in the lower torso and the legs...The investigation is on-going and additional suspect information will be released pending verification of his identity," LBPD said in a release.
As with all officer-involved shootings, the L.A. County D.A. is investigating this case.
