News Fatal Shooting, Aug. 23, 6000 block Atlantic Ave.
(Aug. 25, 2008) -- A 41 year-old LB man was fatally shot in the 6000 block of busy Atlantic Ave. early on Saturday evening (Aug. 23). LBReport.com reported the story on our front page (www.lbreport.com) that evening...and we have details now via an LBPD release.
LBPD says that officers responded just after 7 p.m. and arrived to find Dante Page, 41, of LB who'd sustained several gunshot wounds to the torso. Mr. Page was transported to a hospital where he did not survive his injuries.
LBPD says its preliminary investigation indicates the victim "was standing outside in front of a business when the suspect walked up and opened fire before fleeing in an unknown vehicle. The victim had possibly been involved in a verbal altercation at the location prior to the shooting. Although the victim was not a gang member, it is unknown if this was a gang-related incident."
The upper Atlantic Ave. area has experienced other shootings in recent weeks:
On July 31 in the 6500 block of Atlantic Ave., at about 2 p.m. a suspect and his passenger drove alongside a victim's vehicle and shot him, inflicting non-life-threatening wounds.
On June 15 in the area of Atlantic Ave. near 52nd St., a midnight-hour drive-by shooting wounded one of two bicyclists when a passing vehicle fired several shots at them.
