| (Aug. 16, 2012, 8:30 p.m.) -- On Aug. 16, the City of Long Beach's Department of Animal Care Services hosted a presentation by Lynsey White Dasher, a nationally recognized coyote and wildlife expert with the Humane Society of the United States (HSUS) who spoke on the subject of "Living With Urban Coyotes."
She spoke at two events on Aug. 16: the first at midafternoon at LB Animal Care Services drew a standing room only crowd. A second at early evening filled the meeting room (approximately 70 people) at Skylinks Golf Course. Ms. White Dasher said coyotes are highly intelligent...and learn...and for that reason "hazing" coyotes -- using noisemakers, whistles and the like -- teaches them to go elsewhere and works to drive them away. She had other advice as well, on the video below. LBReport.com webcast the latter event live. Ambient room audio was challenging...and the guest didn't use the podium microphone. (LBReport.com is working to enhance our audio capabilities in these situations; our apologies for less than optimal audio).
