Second Possible Juvenile "Bash Mob" (Sun. Aug. 4) Intercepted/Detained By LBPD Working with Sheriff Metro (Blue Line) Squad; No LB Businesses Report Being Victimized

(Aug. 4, 2013, 11:55 p.m.) -- Initial information is sketchy but Long Beach police officers, working with the L.A. County Sheriff's Dept. Metro unit, may have prevented a second "Bash Mob" incident from victimizing businesses in downtown Long Beach on Sunday night.

LBPD Public Information Officer Marlene Arrona tells LBREPORT.com that at about 7:30 p.m., officers responded to a large group of juveniles in the area of Pine Ave./Seaside Walk (roughly thirty juveniles were believed to be involved in a fight.) Officers detained several of the juveniles, cited six for infractions...and PIO Arrona says "further investigation revealed that additional groups of juveniles were possibly headed to the downtown area from Los Angeles."

  • [Arrona email text] LBPD coordinated efforts with LASD-Metro to monitor the area.

  • LBPD/LASD detained another group of approximately 20 juveniles - some were cited for infractions

  • LBPD says no local businesses reported being victims of "bash mob" activity.

  • LBPD says it will continue to monitor the area for unusual activity.

As reported first in Long Beach media (again) by LBREPORT.com, on July 9 over 100 individuals participated in a "Bash Mob" in the Pike and City Place area of downtown Long Beach, allegedly victimizing some businesses along the way by stealing some goods. At that time, LBPD made at least one arrest for theft; some businesses declined to prosecute; some members of the group were cited for various alleged violations.
