Neighborhood In Vicinity Of 2800 block 3rd St. Fatal Shooting (Of Alleged Intruder/Res Burg Suspect) Had 12 Reported Res Burgs (Attempted or Completed) Within Past Six Months

(Aug.11, 2014, 9:35 a.m.) -- The neighborhood bounded by Temple and Coronado Aves. between 3rd and 4th Sts., an area roughly 1/4 mile by 1/3 mile, experienced ten reported residential burglaries and two attempted residential burglaries during the six month period between Feb. 12-Aug. 10 (data source: LBPD webpage link to crimereports.com.)

That total includes a residential burglary in the 2900 block of E. 3rd St., roughly one block from the location where on Aug. 10 a 29 year old man allegedly entered a residence not his own in the 2 a.m. hour and was fatally shot by a resident.

LBPD reported residential burglaries between Feb. 12-Aug. 10, 2014 are indicated with a red +. Attempted residential burglaries are indicated with a blue +. The area of the Aug. 10 shooting is indicated with a maroon +.

LBREPORT.com's map is based on LBPD data but is unofficial and for rough comparison purposes only. The locations indicated are by block only; LBPD doesn't routinely provide exact street addresses of crime victim locations.

LBREPORT.com used this area because it roughly coincides with LBPD crime reporting district 491, allowing rough year to year comparisons (below). The area shouldn't be considered a particular "hot spot;" a comparison to all others citywide is beyond the scope of this immediate story and there were (obviously) residential burglaries during the same time period nearby and well outside the area shown.

LBPD reported crime data indicate that reporting district 491 had 25 residential burglaries in 2013, 14 residential burglaries in 2012, and 21 residential burglaries in 2011. The area is within LB's 2nd Council district represented since mid-2006 by Councilwoman/Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal.

Some speculate that the person shot, Ryan Mitchell Anderson, 29, who reportedly lived nearby, may have been intoxicated and in the 2 a.m. darkness Sunday somehow entered a residence not his own and a tragic chain of events followed.
