Aug. 2011 on GreaterLongBeach.com: "Bixby Park Neighborhoods Say Public-Safety Cuts Hurting Restoration" by Dave Wielenga

(Aug. 6, 2014, 10:40 p.m.) -- It's been nearly three years since Dave Wielenga published the story below on GreaterLongBeach.com: "Bixby Park Neighborhoods Say Public-Safety Cuts Hurting Restoration" visible at this link.

Nearly three years later, as reported by LBREPORT.com on Aug. 6, 2014 (link here), the President of Friends of Bixby Park, Claudia Schou testified at an Aug. 5, 2014 City Council budget hearing in favor of bolstering Park Ranger presence in Bixby Park and other city parks. Vice Mayor Suja Lowenthal (speaking before Ms. Schou but presumably mindful of her position from previous correspondence) urged her Council colleagues not to take a position until hearing the full cost of the Rangers. Vice Mayor Lowenthal asked city management to present (with options for citywide or "hot spot" deployment) at an Aug. 19 meeting of the Council's now-Lowenthal-chaired Public Safety Committee.

Mr. Wielenga's story from Aug. 26, 2011 speaks for itself at this link.
