(Aug. 3, 2015, 6:10 a.m.) -- Initial information is sketchy, but LBREPORT.com has learned that a man (adult) was shot at early evening Sunday (Aug. 2) [during daylight hours] in the 5400 block of Paramount Blvd.
LBPD Watch Commander Lt. Mark Coble says that at about 6:20 p.m., the victim -- a man believed to be about 40 years old -- was shot [no details for now] and transported to a hospital in critical condition.
Lt. Coble says LBPD believes the shooting was gang related. A suspect (male adult) is outstanding...and LBPD's investigation is ongoing.
The FY16 budget proposed by city management and recommended last week (July 28) by Mayor Garcia proposes that the Council continue its current action (most recently by Council vote 9-0 September 2014) of no longer funding LBPD's field anti-gang unit. Under Mayor Foster and his former Council majority, the field anti-gang unit was first cut in half, then allowed to disappear as a budget item. The current Council will decide whether to change this or continue this with its FY16 budget adoption vote by mid-September.
