(August 9, 2015, 6:30 a.m.) -- LB Firefighters say they noticed arcing power line wires behind and adjacent to a single family home that caught fire in the midnight hour this morning (Sun. Aug. 9.) The cause of the fire remains under LBFD investigation and is undetermined as we report at dawn:

In a release, LBFD says that at 12:15 a.m., units were dispatched to the 2600 block of Deforest Avenue; Engine 7 arrived on scene four minutes later and reported light smoke from the front of the home but significant fire visible in the rear of the structure.

[LBFD release text] As suppression and vertical ventilation efforts were initiated, arcing wires were noted around the involved house and in the backyard of a neighboring home. Edison was requested for additional support.

Per the owner of the home, he came home and found his bedroom on fire. He called "911" and immediately exited the home. There are 2 people that live in the 3 bedroom home. The owner, a 50 year old male and his 25 year old son. The father was not sure of the son's location and reported that his son may have still been in the home at the time of the fire. A primary and secondary search was completed and an all clear was given at 0035 hours. Knockdown of the fire occurred at 0027 hours.

A secondary fire was ignited in the backyard of a neighboring home from the arcing power lines. That fire was extinguished and Long Beach fire crews remained on stand-by until Edison was able to secure the power.
