(Aug. 31, 2015) -- Parts of East Long Beach and Bixby Knolls had power outages on Sunday (Aug. 30), with power for nearly all restored fairly quickly. The outages were unrelated to each other or to the July outages that originated in SCE's downtown network (affecting others beyond.)
SCE spokesperson Lauren Bartlett tells LBREPORT.com:
- At about 2:17 p.m., roughly 822 SCE customers (accounts) lost power in/around zip codes 90808/90815. By about 2:49 p.m, all but 269 customers had power restored and the rest had power back by 2:59 p.m. The area affected was bounded roughly by Stearns St., Kildee St., N. Studebaker Rd., Palo Verde Ave. and vicinity. SCE spokesperson Lauren Bartlett said crews patrolled the overhead line, found no visible damage and speculate it might have been caused by a mylar balloon or some other transitory cause not visible now.
- At about 7:46 p.m., as many as 1,872 SCE customers (accounts) lost power, with power restored to some by about 7:51 p.m., to others at 8:10 p.m., with about 67 customers without power until after midnight. (SCE said restoration was expected by 3:30 a.m. and SCE's website shows no LB outage areas as of shortly before dawn.) SCE spokesperson Bartlett says the cause was an unspecified type of equipment failure...and wasn't related to the July LB outages.
