(Aug. 4, 2015) -- Remember the LBPD activity on Aug. 1 that LBREPORT.com reported in the area of Anaheim St./Ohio Ave...when officers recognized a subject during a traffic stop as a person wanted in connection with an unspecified June homicide? The suspect fled; the officers chased him; they set up a containment...and they apprehended him. Now we've learned who he is and exactly why he was wanted. LBPD tells LBREPORT.com that (assisted by a K9 officer and airport support) officers took Jorge Luis Cruz, 26, of Long Beach into custody...in connection with the murder of Douglas Wilson, 37, of LB, fatally shot in the 800 block of Cedar Ave. shortly before 9 a.m. on June 22. Immediately after the shooting, LBPD activated its SWAT team to search a nearby residence...but a suspect wasn't located. Roughly six weeks later on Aug. 3, 2015, now-defendant Cruz appeared in LB Superior Court for an arraignment (postponed to Aug. 18) in connection with the murder. LBPD says its investigation remains ongoing...and nyone with information regarding the murder is urged to contact LBPD Homicide Detectives Hugo Cortes and Oscar Valenzuela at (562) 570-7244.
