(Aug. 18, 2015) -- Later today, the City Council is scheduled to discuss proposed FY16 budgets for the LB Police Department, Fire Department and Dept of Disaster Preparedness and Emergency Communications. Listed as the first item on the Council's agenda with a scheduled meeting start time of 5:00 p.m., it's a hearing (not just a study session) where Councilmembers can make motions and take voted actions if they wish. The full City Hall budget is expected to come to Council votes in the first half of September. Public Safety Committee chair/Councilwoman Suzie Price has previously indicated that she will be absent from today's Council meeting for a previously scheduled vacation. Councilwoman Price last held a meeting of her Public Safety Committee in April. Following the practice of her predecessor, Price has declined to use her Public Safety Committee to discuss the public safety aspects of budgets recommended by Mayor Garcia who appointed her as chair, as former Committee chair Garcia declined to use the Committee to discuss public safety aspects of budgets recommended by Mayor Foster who appointed him as chair. (Three-member Council Committees can hold discussions, take testimony and make recommendations although their votes are advisory only to the full Council.) LBREPORT.com will provide LIVE coverage of the Council meeting starting at 5:00 p.m. [Scroll down for further.] |
