(August 5, 2016, 11:30 a.m.) -- An LBPD pursuit went through parts of Wrigley and Central LB at midmorning today (Friday Aug. 5) after a traffic stop turned into something more.

LBPD Public Information Officer Sgt. Brad Johnson tells LBREPORT.com that at about 9:20 a.m., an officer on routine patrol initiated a vehicle stop for a traffic violation in the area of Long Beach Blvd. and E. 20th St.; the officer approached and spoke to the driver of the Ford Expedition; at some point the driver [allegedly] attempted to strike the officer with the vehicle and drove away.

A vehicle pursuit began and continued for roughly 10 minutes, ending when the driver stopped in the parking lot of a business in the 1900 block of Pacific Ave., where verbal commands and rubber baton rounds were used to take the man (adult) suspect driver into custody

LBPD's investigation is ongoing.
