19 Yr Old Driver Strikes/Kills 77 Yr Old Pedestrian After El Dorado Park Summer-Ending Concert

(August 13, 2016) -- Good Samaritans rushed to assist a 77 year old man, struck by a 19 year old man driving north on Studebaker Rd. at Barbanell Street after Friday night's (Aug. 12) end of summer band concert in El Dorado Park.

LBFD rushed the pedestrian to a hospital...but he did not survive. LBPD says the driver remained at the scene, has a valid driver's license and insurance...and didn't see the pedestrian.

[LBPD release text] On Friday, August 12, 2016 at approximately 8:33 p.m., officers were dispatched to Studebaker Road and Barbanell Street regarding an injury traffic collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian, which resulted in the death of the pedestrian.

When Officers arrived on scene, they discovered the pedestrian lying unconscious on Studebaker Road being treated by Good Samaritans already on scene. The pedestrian was transported by Long Beach Fire Department Paramedics to a local hospital where he succumbed to his injuries.

The preliminary investigation revealed that a 19-year-old male resident of Los Alamitos, was driving his 2004 Saturn north on Studebaker Road while the pedestrian was walking westbound across Studebaker Road at Barbanell Street. The driver of the Saturn did not see the pedestrian and struck him.

The pedestrian is only being identified as a 77-year-old male resident of Long Beach. The driver of the Saturn remained at the scene, has a valid driver's license and insurance, and was not injured.
