Fire Breaks Out At Homeless Encampment Along 405 @ Cherry Ave, Ignites Spot Fire Across Freeway Lanes

(August 16, 2017, 5:07 p.m.) -- LBFD says a fire broke out at a homeless encampment off the southbound 405 freeway near Cherry Ave., ignited a spot fire (started by flying embers) off the northbound 405 and consumed about an acre of brush before LB firefighters quashed the flames.

A Los Cerritos area resident told LBREPORT.com that the fires sent a massive black smoke plume skyward.

Traffic in both directions of the 405 freeway stopped as firefighters battled the blaze, and residual sluggish traffic followed for a lengthy period thereafter.
